My name is Doris Schaffer and I have been teaching in the Culver City Unified School District since 1988. Prior to that I taught in Long Beach, Earlimart, and San Diego for 5 years. I have experience teaching English as a second language, grades 6, 5, 4, 1, and, my favorite, kindergarten. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts and a Master's Degree in Reading and Literacy.
The classroom curriculum is based on the California Kindergarten Standards. This curriculum is taught using a variety of teaching methods that address students' interests, needs, and learning styles and is often integrated with other areas like art, music and drama.
Farragut Elementary has a computer lab that my class visits weekly. We also visit the school library on a weekly basis. In addition to the art we do in the classroom, the students have an art class taught by a specialist bimonthly. Physical Education is taught daily by a certified P.E. teacher.
A typical kindergarten day in my classroom incorporates hands-on, group, and individual activities as well as time to play outside. Take a look at some of the highlights of what you might see in my classroom.
