August 17, 2009
Dear Farragut Families,
Welcome to the 2009-10 school year. I hope that you and your children had a wonderful summer break. As the new principal at Farragut, I am looking forward to meeting you and your children. While new to Culver City School District, I have an extensive background in administration including thirteen years as a school principal. I feel very privileged to be working with such a wonderful teaching staff and a very active, caring parent community. Farragut is a wonderful place for students to learn and I know that by working collaboratively together we will ensure an excellent education for your child. My focus first and foremost is academics. Our goal is to provide an excellent education that enables all of our students to master the California state academic standards.
I encourage you and your family to attend our annual Welcome Back Picnic scheduled for Monday, August 31st. New kindergarteners and their parents will gather on the front lawn for an orientation from 5:15 to 5:45. From 6:00 to 7:00 all Farragut Families are invited for pizza in the cafeteria.
As part of our effort to work together as strong and supportive partners in your child’s education, teachers and administrators need to have on-going communication with parents. Some of the ways that we facilitate effective communication is through the use of recorded messages via our automated voice message system, the Farragut website, email, letters from teachers, parent conferences, flyers from PTA and Fan Club, principal letters and informal daily contact. I encourage all parents to communicate with your child’s teacher and share successes, concerns, and information about your child. Please plan to attend our September 23rd “Back to School Night”. This is an opportunity for you to learn about your child’s curriculum as well as the teacher’s expectations for this school year.
There are numerous volunteer opportunities available to parents (and grandparents) throughout the school year. Our PTA and Fan Club are eager to share information with you and look forward to welcoming both new and returning parents.

You may join this winning team by sharing your time, your financial resources or your expertise and community connections. Everyone has an important contribution to make. Please make the decision to actively participate in your child’s education.
